Project: Catalepsy — A third-person roguelike set in hell

Die, return to the abyss, and fight what hunts you

You wake in an abyss that shouldn't exist. No light. No way out. Just echoes... and something watching you.

In Catalepsy, every attempt is a fight to push forward knowing you're going to fall. The question isn't whether you'll die — it's how long you'll hold out before the abyss sends you back to the beginning.

What is Catalepsy

A third-person action roguelike set in the Christian hell. Not the generic underworld of western fantasy — the Christian hell: a place of judgment, structure, and accumulated guilt. A space where every soul is exactly where it deserves to be.

Including yours.

You play as the Dweller. You don't know what he did to end up here. He doesn't seem to want to remember either. What you do know is that his arms hide stigmata that expel blood — his only resource in combat. You use it, spend it, lose it. In the Abyss, even what keeps you alive can turn against you.

In the depths dwell colossal creatures of unknown nature, who can guide or destroy you depending on your actions.

Combat, adaptation and survival

Catalepsy is built on fast, aggressive combat centered on mobility.

  • Dodge, reposition and punish at the exact right moment.

  • Use blood abilities that transform your playstyle.

  • Face enemies that evolve and force you to adapt.

  • Survive encounters where the environment and enemies work against you.

Attacking better isn't enough. You have to understand what's killing you.

The Abyss

Twenty procedurally generated levels divided into five thematic sections, each guarded by a boss protecting its threshold.

Before each descent, you can only choose one weapon. Inside the Abyss, you'll collect blood shards that let you modify your weapons, unlock new abilities and adapt them to your playstyle.

Death is permanent. But there is a way to ascend: defeat the boss at each threshold. Every victory lets you push further and hold onto resources, bringing you closer to control of the Abyss.

The entire environment is hostile. Even your shadow can betray you. The inhabitants of the Abyss have gained power too. Question your existence while you fight to survive.

The Gate

At the center of everything stands the Gate — the threshold separating the underworld from the Abyss. It's not just a door: it's the axis of your progression.

As you rise through Fortitude Ranks, the Gate evolves with you: unlocking new abilities, sins and deeper access to each level of the Abyss. To feed it you need blood shards. To get them you have to throw yourself into the depths.

Development status

Catalepsy is an active project built in spare time by nine people who take it seriously. This year we release the first playable prototype — the first build to show the combat, the atmosphere and the real direction of the game.

We don't promise more than we can deliver. What's coming is being built with care, and you'll see it when it's ready.

What to do now

If you want to be among the first to try it and follow the process from the inside, now is the time to stay.

What's coming isn't for everyone.
